The Filipino American Community Health Initiative of Chicago (FACHIC) is a collaborative of community, health professional, and academic leaders united to address Filipino health issues in the Chicago area. The mission of FACHIC is to increase awareness of Filipino health disparities and to implement health interventions and educational programming to improve the health status of the Filipino community.

FACHIC was established in September 2007 when several like-minded health professionals, academic leaders, and Filipino-American community members came together to start what is now a non-profit organization dedicated to the betterment of health and wellbeing of Filipino Americans residing in metropolitan Chicago. FACHIC became an Illinois corporation in July 2008 and obtained its 501(c)(3) status in October 2009. FACHIC is composed of an all volunteer staff, board and advisory board.

Since its inception, FACHIC has been serving the Filipino-American community with its various health-related programs and services. FACHIC services and programs have included heart healthy cooking demonstrations of traditional Filipino foods, community health outreach, health presentations, holiday wellness checks, community health outreach worker training and social service referrals. All FACHIC programs and services are free and available to all.

Volunteer Position Overview

FACHIC is seeking a volunteer webmaster to enhance, optimize and maintain the FACHIC website at http://www.fachic.org.

Ideal applicants will have the experience and skill set to work independently in website development and maintenance as well as incorporating social media tools in a website.

This is a non-paid position which provides valuable experience and is available immediately.

Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Collaborate with FACHIC volunteer staff to regularly update website content such as press releases, employment opportunities and event announcements via the online calendar;
  • Integrate social media tools (such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn) and FACHIC listserv subscriptions into the website;
  • Periodically update photo gallery and resource links;
  • Create online forms to collect volunteer and client information and questions;
  • Track website visitor traffic and optimize search engines;
  • Troubleshoot website related issues;
  • Dialogue with FACHIC volunteer staff for other web development needs;
  • Attend periodic meetings including FACHIC volunteer staff meetings;
  • Check and respond to FACHIC pertinent email in a timely manner.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to helping a start up nonprofit grow and increase capacity to serve the community
  • Experience and knowledge of using Joomla as an online content management system
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Able to work at least 4 to 6 hours per week
  • Able to commit to a minimum of 6 months
