Do you or someone you know suffer from mental illness? Are you interested in getting basic knowledge on Mental Health? Then, you may be interested in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), a 12-hour certificate course developed to help members of the general public support an individual experiencing a mental health crisis. It is appropriate for people working with the public (primary health care, teachers, public welfare workers, college residential advisors) as well as for anyone who wants to learn more about mental health and to feel more comfortable assisting someone experiencing a mental health problem. Much as conventional First Aid does not train a person to diagnose or to act as a medical professional, MHFA is designed to offer the initial help that can take place before appropriate professional treatment is received. It aims to increase mental health literacy in the community and by doing this, to decrease stigma of mental illnesses. MHFAwas developed in Australia where it has been provided to tens of thousands of people over the last eight years and has been replicated in several other countries. Community Counseling Centers of Chicago (C4) is again offering an opportunity for individuals to participate in the 12-hour training on Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). Sign up while slots are still available!!!! The training focuses on the more common mental health crises of depression and anxiety, substance use, psychotic behavior and eating disorders. When: Thursday and Friday, September 29th & 30th: 9:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M. Note: Participation is required on both days in order to obtain certificate. Please contact Marta J. Gomez at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for registration information. Registration will be open until the end of business day 9/24/2010 (a week prior to training). Please feel free to share with your individual networks.

May 2012 Illinois Senior Medicare Patrol Program
Many people in Illinois have been receiving phone calls from someone offering “free home services from Medicare.” These phone calls are a scam. Medicare will never call you to offer “free services.” These callers are trying to get people’s Medicare numbers over the phone, so that they can bill Medicare for thousands of dollars in skilled home care services that they do not provide. If anyone calls on the phone and asks for your Medicare number, hang up the phone! Do not accept any services from anyone who calls on the phone or comes to your door. If you need health care services, call your doctor first to get a prescription. Your doctor can then help you find a legitimate company to provide the services. If you have given your Medicare number away to someone who called on the phone or came to your door, report it to the Illinois Senior Medicare Patrol Program at AgeOptions: (800)699-9043.
Mayo 2012 Ang Programang Illinois Senior Medicare Patrol
