Chicago, IL – January 14, 2014. The Filipino American Community Health Initiative of Chicago (FACHIC) organized a fun and successful family friendly fundraiser for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.  On December 28, 2013 families with young children gathered at the Purple Monkey Playroom in Logan Square in support of this event. Approximately fifty people were in attendance raising over four hundred dollars with 100% of proceeds going to the Save the Children Relief Fund for Typhoon Haiyan Victims.

Chicago children’s singer Little Miss Ann, also of Filipino heritage, performed original and familiar children’s songs to get the crowd moving. A Filipino storytime was hosted by FACHIC boardmember John Paul Jael who read the Tagalog 2012 National Children’s Book Awardee “Ay Naku” by Reni Roxas. Whole Foods Sauganash donated healthy snacks of apples, bananas, and fruit bars for attendees. In addition, FACHIC is appreciative to Purple Monkey Playroom for providing a fun and safe venue for participants to engage and play.

Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines in early November 2013 and left millions vulnerable in its aftermath. Funded donations went towards children relief experts and supplies to the hardest hit areas. FACHIC’s goal was to bring attention to this calamity as well as model to families with children that support and giving can be done at any age.

FACHIC would like to thank all participants and volunteers for their donation and support. Look out for future events hosted by FACHIC, such as our American Heart Association funded Healthy Filipino Cooking demonstration series, planned for early Spring 2014 at a Chicago area church.
